Additional information
NSSF Tier 2, pension, non-cash benefits, KRA reliefs
For employees in a contracted-out occupational scheme - only Tier 1 (6% of the first 9,000) is deducted; the rest is contributed to their private scheme instead.
Pension contribution
Voluntary contributions to a registered scheme, on top of NSSF. Employee-side is tax-deductible up to 30,000/month combined with NSSF.
Non-cash benefits
Any benefit in kind not covered below - club memberships, low-interest loans, domestic staff, etc - valued at what it would cost the employee to buy it themselves.
Shifts the tax created by non-cash benefits onto the employer, so the employee's net pay isn't reduced by tax on a benefit they never received in cash.
Other KRA reliefs & deductions
Deductible from taxable pay, capped at 30,000/month - only for interest on a loan to buy or improve the employee's main residence.
Relief of 15% of premiums paid, capped at 5,000/month - added on top of the 2,400 personal relief, not deducted from taxable pay.
Deductible from taxable pay, capped at 15,000/month - separate from the pension cap above.
Waives PAYE entirely on employment income for holders of a current KRA exemption certificate - no cap.
